CNN - A Dear John Letter

To the Movers and Shakers at CNN,

They were gradual... subtle... just below the radar, but the continual small changes proved to be the foundation upon which you based your betrayal.

CNN was, at it's inception, a trusted and credible news source for Americans and the global community as well. That is no longer true. CNN and CNN Headline News have sold out.

We were puzzled at first, then disappointed, and finally angry. Other than watching Lou Dobbs in the afternoon we no longer waste our time ingesting the propagandized pablum that CNN dishes out as valid information.

CNN is no longer on during the day in our home because no one can stand the unpleasant and extremely rude Kyra Phillips. Her interview style fluctuates between open hostility toward anyone who does not march in lock step and fawning adoration toward the members of neoconservative think tanks like PNAC (Project for a New American Century). Kyra Phillips, noted for bias, is not a journalist, she's a mouthpiece for the Bush Administration. It is also unfortunate that her pinched up face and her bitchy, nasty attitude make her most difficult to watch.

The Situation Room starring Wolf Blitzer, is a joke. There he stands, surrounded by bells and whistles, pretending to be some kind of hip newsman while trolling for younger viewers. Wolf Blitzer, hip or not, is no newsman! He's no Cronkite. He's no Murrow. He is a cheerleader for Bush, and is positively giddy about the war in Iraq. Wolf's "overeager puppy" approach to the failing leadership of this country is almost as tragic as was his unbridled superiority and unmasked antagonism toward noted humanitarian, Harry Belafonte, a recent guest in "The Spin Room".

Now it appears as if CNN is approaching a full right wing crescendo. Conservative high-stakes gambling addict and author of "The Book of Virtues", Bill Bennett, is sure to impress global viewers when his narrow, religious rantings are broadcast as "political analysis". Additionally, Representative "Julius Ceasar" Watts has decided to retire from Congress to join CNN's stable of FOX-like conservative commentators.

All this, AND an hour-long show for the man who said about the people who were trapped in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, "Those are the only ones that we're seeing on television - are the scumbags...It's just a small percentage of those who were left in New Orleans, or who decided to stay in New Orleans, and they're getting all the attention". Yes, Glenn Beck will be CNN's visual Rush Limbaugh. Anderson Cooper must appear to be so liberal that the America's own "Propaganda Central" was forced to hire the most belligerant bigot they could find. You know, to balance the programming.

CNN's trendy, propagandized misinformation is insulting to the thinking public both in the states and abroad. It's recent Bush inspired reformation is embarrassing. The new CNN format offers international viewers an ugly close-up of American indifference and hypocrisy. And guess what? The emperor has no clothes.

So we bid you adeiu, CNN.

You've dumbed-down and betrayed us, your faithful news watchers.
CNN isn't news, it's a FOX clone.

...............Kitchen Window Woman and family...........

P.S. Did Bush crony "Heckuva Job" Brownie land Ted Turner's old job?

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! I thank you for writing about this. I was so upset after see the way Wolf Blitzer treated Harry Ballefonte this week on his "Situation Room" show. He was rude, demeaning and argumentive. Mr. Ballefonte was poised and remained a true gentleman despite Wolfs attitude.
This is a sneaky turn of events that CNN would choose to become another Fox network. However, Fox ratings are fantastic and CNN is after those ratings. That Fox's ratings are so high does not bode well for the intellect of the majority of TV news viewers in this nation.

AUNTIE...
MoveOn.org had also noticed CNN's move to the Right. It is almost unbelievable what is happening to the airways that are OWNED by the American people.

I downloaded and printed the transcripts of the Blitzer/Belafonte interview. I agree with Belafonte...if the people in Germany and in Europe in general had spoken out and stood against Hitler there would not have been a WWII. Blitzer jumped in like he owns the holocaust....he doesn't. The Jews did not die by themselves. Many different kinds of people were killed by Hitler's fascists.....political prisoners, the mentally ill, the disabled, homosexuals, Gypsies by the thousands, and anyone who ever uttered a word against Hitler.

WWII could not have happened without the the active aid of American bankers, corporations, and fascists. There were many wealthy American fascists who supported Hitler. Prescott Bush, the president's grandfathe,r was involved in money laundering for Hitler. He made quite a profit.

Blitzer would do better to listen to what Belafonte had to say.

DR. JOHN...
Democracy cannot exist without an informed public. Propaganda is being passed off as legitimate information by FOX and now, CNN. You must be a man who loves slogans. They are easy to repeat and require no thought. Enjoy your Kool-Aid

An interesting site out in cyberspace http://cnnvsfox.blogspot.com/ compares CNN's left-leaning bias with Fox's right-leaning bias.

Some points to consider:

- Numerous independent media watchdog groups consistently find CNN biased left of center. If you feel that CNN has "sold out" doesn't logic dictate that you should examine your bias?

- Fox's ratings are greater than all 3 major networks + CNN combined. The public is shifting to the right and Fox is serving that market (ie, the airwaves are owned by the American people.)

- Your point about democracy requiring an informed public was spot-on... however, this public has been receiving tainted news for years. The reporters and journalists all have major left-leaning bias (See http://www.mediaresearch.org/realitycheck/2005/ fax20051213.asp ) so their reporting is suspect. A news source that counters that bias is good for the public, allowing the citizens to find the truth which inevitably exists somewhere in the center.
