The American Resistance

Saturday night I spent hours reading about the Resistance during WWII. It began in the spring of 1940 immediately after Hitler's fascist armies overran Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium, and France. The Resistance started when individuals, who valued their freedom and their countries over the totalitarian rule imposed by the Nazis, took action against the destructive forces that had permeated their societies. Small acts of defiance, like painting anti-German slogans on walls and billboards, knitting and sewing symbols of their respective nations into clothing, and talking back to Nazi propaganda films, signaled to others of like mind that they were neither isolated, nor alone.

Hitler's war machine would not have been able to
rise from the ashes of the Great War (WWI) without abundant financial support from American and British bankers, corporations, and Fascist sympathizers. Likewise, the Hitler machine could not have been defeated without the combined efforts of the Allied troops and the Resistance. The Resistance had grown from patriotic individuals committing acts of courage to networks of thousands of activists who cleared the way for Churchill and Eisenhower to destroy German totalitarianism.

Americans today are facing an illegal war and its expansion into Iran and Syria. The Constitution is being subverted by corporatists and theocratic religious fanatics, and we are drowning in debt. The current administration has undone decades of negotiations, deterrents, and treaties to unleash both nuclear proliferation and war, and has rendered The United States of America, in seven short Bush years, the most despised nation in the world.

All across America citizens have had ENOUGH! Many have been part of the Resistance for a long time and more citizens every day are taking action to support and defend The Constitution and restore American democracy. Even dogs have had ENOUGH!

ENOUGH ! ENOUGH ! ENOUGH !

Here's what my husband (of 28 years Sept. 30th) and I did for one hour on Sunday, will be doing for one hour next Sunday, and one hour the Sunday after that and........... well, we'll be doing one hour for Peace and Impeach every Sunday!

Have you read The Constitution today?

The FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM is not in the Middle East - that fight is for oil and empire. The fight for our freedom, is HERE, in America.

Resist Daily - Defend Democracy - Wage Peace

The only and correct solution is to try this administration in the Hague for their War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.

Anything else will not work.

God Bless.

I agree with the fact that those that are benefiting from this war is getting richer, making it almost if not impossible for the politicians to end this war.
We are so below what or who matters in this country right now, all we can do is sit back and be a spectator as our children die and a threat of the draft hangs over our head as if we are just sheep for the government awaiting there orders.
We are lied to, our rights are being taken away daily, we are looked on as second class citizens, as if prisoners.
There's something very wrong here, not even our protest seems to matter or do anything.

i think there are resistors, but organization is hard. pckets of resistance in austin, seattle, portland, san diego, new york.....i guess if we all do our part, it may yet have an impact.

hitler is the historical benchmark for evil - it seems hard for people to see evil in another man "because he's not as bad as hitler'. meanwhile, germany and germans are still viewed with suspicion, and it's 60 yrs later.

Coming here was a heart warming experience!! It seems so many have written impeachment off as impossible. It might not work, but we've got to at least try!!

The only way a draft would do any good is if all the loopholes for the children of the rich were closed. No college deferments, nothing except unfit health wise. If a few of the rich folks kids started dying along side ours, I think we'd see this war end.

Oh yes. I love your title!:)

At least some people are protesting.

How many dead before people masss in the streets?

How many hundreds of billions of dollars before people are outwardly enraged?

I agree that these men need to be tried in the Hague. It is the only way that America will be accepted as part of the world community again. The longer the world watches Americans tolerate a criminal regime, the lower we fall, and the more we are endangered. We are hated with good reason because of what Bush has done.

Let's Talk...
We can still resist in many ways like working with the GI Resistance to stop the war from the inside. It was the GI Resistance that finally brought the war in Vietnam to a screeching halt.

Moderate...
The pols had better listen! Every day more Americans are speaking out and standing up to this administration. I am furious with the Democratic Congress - their collective failure makes me want to spit! - and I don't spit.

WeezieLou...
At the beginning of this Bush mess there weren't even pockets of resistance. We are progressing. We just have to keep at it and expand it some.

I see Bush and Co. as every bit as bad as Hitler. They the same type of sociopaths and psychopaths who lack consciences and do not connection to the communities around them. Bush never even thinks about the Iraqi dead. They never existed for him in the first place so why should he grieve over their loss? He sees our troops pawns, and has even gone so far as to exploit the wounded for photo ops, and the dead for teary speeches.

I think America, as a result of Bush's foreign policy of violence, occupation, and and corporate plunder, will be viewed with suspicion for years to come.

Hi, glad you could make it! Yes, we've got to keep trying for impeachment. We do not want any of the damage Bush has done to remain in place to be handed over to the next president. I agree with you in that I think it is time for the rich kids to go to war.

I chose "The Dishpan Chronicles" for my title because I've been washing dishes by hand since I was eight - almost 50 years. Since I didn't want to die of boredom, I'd hide a book nearby when I was a kid. I'd sneak a couple of pages then wash some dishes while I thought about what I'd read. I do the same thing now with print articles except I don't have to hide them. Plus sometimes, I listen to NPR. "It's what I think when I'm at the sink!"

Mary...
We're all in this together!

Polishifter...
More people are turning out. Its like what I was reading on the Resistance - that a few took small actions encouraged others. So that's what we've all got to try to do. Its the only way to stop the waste of lives and money.

Excellent blog - listen to Nova M radio (local stations or streaming) They are helping to mobilize the resistance. Before we can protest the war criminals, we need to protest the major media outlets. Until they acknowledge our numbers and our strength, resistance is futile. Blockade your local television stations - demand that they report what is happening in your communities. How can they not report what is happening with the resistance when they cannot leave the station? We need to hold all of the co-conspirators accountable for their complicity in this. Power to the people!!
