Randy "Duke" Cunningham....Republican Flim-Flam Man

Well, Well, there he was on television, crying. It was a pathetic but not unexpected spectacle. So many of them suddenly find Jesus and cry after they GET CAUGHT! The born-again Christian who plead guilty to federal charges of tax evasion and bribery, then spent the day in prayer. Although he talked about "a new chapter in his life"....."a chapter of service to God", I strongly suspect that he was praying for a lenient federal judge. The greedy Cunningham was CAUGHT not only with his arm up to the shoulder in the cookie jar, but clutching millions of dollars in his grubby little fist!

It is being argued that while American War Hero, Randy "Duke" Cunningham, was honorably and dutifully representing his Californian constituents, he was overcome by the awful temptation and corruption that has permeated the atmosphere in Washington, D.C. "Look beyond" the ex congressman's crimes and remember the "Top Gun Hero" asks his fellow Republican hawk, Duncan Hunter, who then recited Cunningham's military record. Huh?????

Randy Cunningham has promised to do penance for the tax evasion and bribery. Gee, thanks Randy and how are you going to atone for voting FOR the War on Iraq? You know, the one that delivered death and misery to thousands while you and your fun-loving defense contractor buddies deposited millions in blood-money profits? It's unethical and immoral to vote for a war that will make you rich.

I agrue that Randy "Duke" Cunningham's criminal behavior is the result of an innate character flaw. A person who can take so much money through manipulative wheeling and dealing is a selfish opportunist at the core. Mr. Cunningham flew above the carnage during the Vietnam War and has continued to fly above. He, true to character, elevated his "Top Gun" self above the people he was elected to represent AND above federal law during his long stint as a California congressman.

As a naval pilot, Mr. Cunningham never looked into the eyes of his victims as they died. He did not smell the fear and the buring flesh. He could strafe villages, drop Napalm, or Agent Orange without ever seeing or feeling the consequences of his actions. He was too far removed.

He was above that unnecessary war, but he based his career beyond it on his status as a "hero". He ran for office as if being a better killer than others made him the more moral candidate. He was going to fight "the good fight" in Washington, whatever that is. My, what a heroic way to seduce the voters!

The nickname, "Duke", betrays Randy's arrogance: Duke, a title bestowed on landed gentry, Duke, the moniker chosen by swaggering actor Marion Michael Morrison alias John Wayne, and Duke-Stir, the name painted on the stern of Cunningham's newly aquired yacht. It is amazing how much the jerk got away with with his little set of flight wings, church talk, and Duke-induced swagger!

Unfortunately, the California taxpayers have been stuck with the tab for the dirty ex congressman's criminal behavior. We all have to pony up to pay for the special election that will fill the conservative con artist's empty seat! Let's hope that the people in San Diego's North County don't elect another greedy, gun-loving, god-fearing Republican as their representative but I suspect they will for there are many politicians of Cunningham's ilk here, in San Diego County, and they are as thick as thieves.

Justice will be served as Randy "Duke" Cunningham does not get to keep his ill-gotten goodies. Instead, he gets to enjoy 10 or more years in one of our finest federal prisons.

I wish "our war hero" too much time to think. Only "the best" for Randy!
