The Bird Flu Over The Cuckoo's Nest

The Bush Administration has been right on target since it inaugurated itself into being on that fateful January day back in the year 2000, and I must say, it has been successful.

Nearly every government agency charged with the protection and care of the American people has been systematically gutted from the inside out. The concerns of the people of this nation have been overridden by an infantile regime whose demand for loyality and desire for empire have proven to be a direct danger not only to American Democracy, but to the very lives of its citizens.

Prior to the illegal and unnecessary quagmire in Iraq, the State Department was raided and all personnel who were experts on the Middle East or were fluent in Arabic were replaced with Bush team members whose qualifications for the job were limited to flag waving. The FBI and the CIA were subject to similar restaffing procedures. The goal of this administration was to eliminate all qualified, expert personnel from America's agencies and replace them with corporate leaning cronies, yes-persons, and the occasional (wink, wink... nod, nod) godly goodnik to placate the Christian right.

The list of compromised agencies is long and includes: the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Pentagon, the Office of Fair Housing and Opportunity, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Replacing agency experts with unqualified, inexperienced Bush loyalists enabled this administration to easily divert funds from each of these departments. Members of the Crony Corps were guaranteed not to object as necessary moneys were moved to cover Bush's tax cuts and shore up the Iraq War. And not one squawk was heard when the dismantling of internal structures and subsequent loss of political power occurred within these vital agencies.

Well, now the chickens have come home to roost as Americans along with the rest of the world's peoples are faced with the probability of the Avian Flu morphing into a pandemic. Unfortunately for "We The People", the Department of Health and Human Services was razed some time ago by the gutless wonder in the White House.

Remember the Alamo?....remember, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job?" Just let the fear wash over you like another catagory five hurricane. Stewart Simonson, a crony of a crony of a crony trailing back to George W. Bush, is the current Secretary for Public Health Emergency Preparedness at the DHHS. He is a LAWYER!

Simonson has no medical degree, has absolutely no background in epidemiology or the development of vaccines, and no experience in the field of public health. Up until being named as point man "on matters related to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies", Stewie was a corporate secretary and counsel for AMTRAK! Wouldn't the appointment of someone from the Center for Disease Control have been a more prudent and appropriate move?

Bush has reacted to the threat of a pandemic like any budding fascist. He sees the danger of the Bird Flu afflicting millions of Americans as an opportunity to insert his army. I get the picture....Stewie will make sure that the trains run on time and load the cars with troops intent on Nurse Ratcheding the victims into submission. If a handful of citizens die here and there, so what?......Iraq has a Constitution and Bush and his oil-boy gang have the oil!

Once again, incompetence reigns supreme but I continue to dream. The next time George W. lifts his lying face skyward, I pray that a migratory cuckoo or a high-flying chicken vents right on target, into one of his squinty, short-sighted eyes.
