Iraq War Cheerleaders - Fred Kagan and Bill Kristol

You would think that they would hang their heads in shame, these neoconservative monsters who are responsible for the war in Iraq, but no, they have been writing and speaking almost non-stop to convince Americans (and the world) that civil war is not what we are witnessing in Iraq. "What was striking, following the mosque bombing, was the evidence of Iraq's underlying stability in the face of attempts to undermine it." Oh my gosh, Pollyanna is wearing rose colored glasses!

William Kristol, neocon founder of PNAC and editor of "The Weekly Standard" and talking head regular on Fox News together with Frederick W. Kagan, professor of military history and co-author (with his father, Donald Kagan) of "While America Sleeps: Self-Delusion, Military Weakness, and the Threat to Peace Today", spent over a decade prior to the election of George W. Bush in 2000, advocating the invasion of Iraq and the removal by force of Saddam Hussein. Note that these fanatic neoconservatives, along with fellow PNAC members Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, and John Bolton have also continually advanced the idea that military force be used against both Iran and Syria.

It is interesting that none of these arm-chair warriors have ever put themselves in harm's way. Intellectual elitists who have proven adept at unleashing deadly fiascos, they prefer to send others to do the fighting and killing deemed necessary to achieve their hegemonic goals. Kristol and Kagan never write about the suffering of the Iraqi people. The Iraqi people have endured the maiming and deaths of their family members, and the destruction of their homes and society because the neoconservative radicals who formed PNAC gained power over the government of the United States of America.

It is time for William Kristol, his father Irving, and the Kagans, Donald, Robert, and Fred, to journey to Iraq. Once there they should spend time explaining in person to each Iraqi family that has suffered the loss of loved ones, why they have been singled out by the neoconservative movement in America. The American Empire cowards should visit Sadar City and definately spend time in Fallujah, and Basra. Perhaps listening to the horrific experiences of Iraqi people themselves will keep these men from committing more "crimes against humanity" by proxy through the use of American troops.

If indeed, Kristol and Kagan were experts on war, foreign policy, and the cultures of other peoples maybe they would have been able to predict that many of the Iraqi security forces trained by the United States would use the training, uniforms, and equiptment to act instead with the militias of religious sects or political parties. Could this be why so many Iraqi civilians are taken away by uniformed Iraqi forces only to be found the following day with execution-style bullet holes in their heads?

Hence the warning that rolled across the televison screens in Baghdad on March 27th, "The Ministry of Defense requests that civilians do not comply with the orders of the army or police on nightly patrols unless they are accompanied by coalition forces working in the area". This warning was translated and posted by Riverbend, on her blog, "Baghdad Burning". She is a young Iraqi woman who has bravely blogged throughout this illegal war while she and her family try to stay alive.

William Kristol and Frederick W. Kagan continue to assert the notion that the new Iraqi security forces are "committed and professional". They probably are but with which militia do their loyalities really lie?

It is time for these psuedo patriots to lay down their pens and zip up their lips least they destroy this country along with the Middle East.

I guess to even flirt with the truth would be to admit that they were part and parcel of one of the biggest screw-up, from conception to today - in the history of the nation. Not much of a legacy. Their names should go down in history with traitors and other felons of note.

Great post. Yup, send all those PNAC types over to Iraq. They can put uniforms on and put themselves in the same danger they send other people to. Or, like you say, they can visit some Iraqis face to face and explain why their family members were killed or maimed. Never happen, though.

Kristol is a shitstain on the body of the country. I wish he and like him had been drafted and made into the vanguard of the Iraqi occupation-the cheerleading is hard to do when you keep getting wet spots in the crotch.

But Window Woman, aren't you doing the same thing you accuse them of? ie, arm-chair quarterbacking!?

How many trips to Iraq and Afghanistan have you made? What makes your analysis of the war effort more accurate than theirs??? (Do you have a PhD from Harvard?)

Better yet, lets listen to some of the men and women whom have served in Iraq and Afghanistan!! Check out www.vetsforfreedom.org and read some first-hand accounts. You place so much credibility in "putting ones' self in harms way," but will you be swayed by the testimony of those who have done just that?

I have... and I'm deeply disturbed by this quote from these brave men and women: Despite hard fought successes, we are losing the other 50% of this fight: galvanizing the will of the American people to see this conflict through.

ZENYENTA...I think it would be great if these men went down in history as traitors, felons, and war crimminals. I also think that they should studied to protect future generations from following these types of people into the wars they tend to cause. The "neoconservative legacy" will be marked as one of shame.

TOM...I think that they need to face the crimes that they have committed and stand trial in the World Court. I also think that members of the American public who supported this illegal war and with its horrific level of human suffering accept responsibity as "accessories to war crimes".

JOLLYROGER...William Kristol, his father, and the Kagan clan believe that they are superior to almost everyone. A rather Straussian concept. Both have been trying to distance themselves from Bush and Rumsfeld since the adventure in Iraq began to morph into a debacle. Current writings by Kristol and Kagan blame mismanagement by Bush and his admin. for the direction the war has taken while attempting to exonerate their own decades-long outline for the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

PALADIN...I declare a celebration! "Despite hard fought successes, we are losing the other 50% of this fight: galvanizing the will of the American people to see this conflict through."
Yippeeeeee! The American sheeple are finally opening their eyes!

I had no reason to invade Iraq, maim, torture, and kill its people, destroy its infrastructure, and shred the fabric of its society. I also had no reason to give Saddam Hussein billions of dollarsduring the 20 years prior to this illegal war.

You support the killing and destructiuon associated with war. You did nothing to stop it. You instead chose the drug of justification and have become an addict. How sad.

You're right, KWW, I do support the killing and destruction associated with the war... because I don't want to see more innocent Americans slain on their home soil!

We can fight these terrorist regimes over there with brave men and women who have volunteered and been specially trained, or we can watch the results of our inactivity on CNN as more buildings drop.

The 9/11 attacks were started sometime during Clinton's 8 years (you don't put something like that together in only 5 months!!) And the fact that Saddam was on a US leash doesn't change anything, except to make us even more liable for his attrocities and require us to take action. The past is done and can't be changed, and only a fool dwells on it.

The fact that you want to hide your head in the sand and hope for the best is the saddest thing of all... for you would allow more innocents to suffer with your inactivity, Mr. Neville Chamberlain.

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it. -- Thomas Paine

PALADIN...
You didn't say anything about William Kristol or Fred Kagan and PNAC!?!? They were the subject of this blog.

You've got it - you own it, you might as well lay back and enjoy it, this war with all of its death and destruction...how voyeuristically thrilling for you.

I am sorry that you are a person who has mistaken violence as a viable solution. The Kool-Ade has gone to your head.

And I'm sorry KWW that you find it easier to malign the character of those people willing to make the hard and unpopular decisions, than to do the dirty job yourself.

"peace is beautiful"
"all we are asking, is give peace a chance"
"imagine"

All lovely sentiments and worthy goals... but we gave peace a chance and they flew planes into buildings. (You did know there was a day care in the WTC?)

The UN prompted peace... and they flew planes into buildings.

Our President made several unpopular decisions... and no planes have been flown into buildings.

We've identified and caught sleeper cells here in the US and abroad... we've disrupted the funding of multiple terrorist organizations... and cleaned up two corrupt governments that tortured and murdered their own people.

Peace does not equal inactivity, KWW.

I'm so very thankful better minds are at the helm, and you are at the sink.

Thanks. I got a kick out of that. It was well done. I especially like the showing of all of the necon faces. Those faces should be on public criminal posters - every American needs to know who they are and what they have done!
