The Acting Patriot and the Patriot Act

What is it about him that he can't make a speech without a crowd of uniforms serving as a backdrop? We've seen him, time and time again, posed in front of stadium risers packed with young members of our military forces, while he lied about the war in Iraq.

The intention is for George W. Bush to appear strong and commanding. Instead, Bush's weakness is emphasized in what seems to be a comical attempt to answer the age old question, "You and what army?"

This past week found George W. in Columbus, Ohio. The schtick hadn't changed but the flavor of uniform had. Service men and women from the armed forces did not set the scene. It was the cadets at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy who had Bush's back while he hawked the Patriot Act.

WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM TO BRING YOU OUR SUPREME PATRIOT.............

A time capsule-styled performance was staged today by the president, and his handlers, who felt a background of state police would best highlight the move to make permanent certain "police state" provisions of The Patriot Act.

In a scene reminiscent of a WWII newsreel, stern young men who resembled Hitler's SS elite in their epaulet-festooned grey shirts, and dark ties, formed a solid wall of grim force behind the Commander-in-Chief. George W. Bush, besuited in similar, color-coordinated hues of grey, needed only the push-broom mustache of the Fuhrer to complete the picture, and the intent. It looks like Karl Rove put his thinking cap on for this one!

"The Patriot Act" is a propagandistic misnomer on a grand scale. The document was written long before the 9/11 attack on The World Trade Center for some unknown reason, and was all ready to put in place at the first opportunity. It's purpose was never the protection of the American public from terrorists; that was merely the excuse for it's implementation. The document was written to protect members of the ruling party from scrutiny by ordinary Americans, to increase the power held by the ruling elite, and to use surveilance of citizens as a means of political control.

President Bush does not need The Patriot Act to "close dangerous gaps in America's law enforcement and intelligence capabilities." Our borders are sieves, chemical and nuclear power plants remain unprotected, and last week a murderer with a bloody chain saw in his suitcase was allowed into the United States! We need money to establish the protections suggested by The 9-11 Commission!

We sure could, however, use "sneak and peek" warrants for the White House and the Pentagon. The President is a proven liar and his administration is noted for extreme secrecy.

"See, we gotta flush em out, and make em face the music!"

Uh oh, you're on to them. Better start listening for that tapping sound on your phone line :)

Like you say, we have power plants that are unguarded and the border is a sieve. The FBI and CIA are plagued (then and now) with bureaucratic slipups that would get anyone fired from a civilian job. But, hey, here's the solution: we'll just spy on everybody. That's so much easier than just making everyone do their jobs properly.

Given that all of their efforts have been aimed at the American citizen, I have to wonder if they care about fighting "terra" at all.

Look for the definition of "terra" to become fluid, as El Shrubbo's handlers get more and more creative.

Tom - It makes a tapping sound??? I figure I'll say what I want anyway because, "I love freedom" just like George does...so basically they can just read what I write or ask me...it would cost less!(tee hee) And why should we pay taxes to have any citizen spied upon...when the real danger lies in the White House? I agree that there are bureaucratic slipups, too ...The baffoons should be fired and their superiors should be impeached!

Jollyroger - like the terrible twos the real "terras" are running the country or trying to between tamtrums. I also think that the definition of "terra" will be subject to change.

Okdemocrat - I think that your girlfriend is right! George W. Bush is always trying to PROVE something and gets drunk on POWER very easily. He is a very weak person of almost non-existant character who was raised badly to this stage and he's stuck in it for years. He's definately not a grown up.

Why doesn't he just give it up and buy a big-ass, gas guzzling American truck? He could spend his time gunning the motor in the drive-way to his heart's content and do a lot less harm...after all George can AFFORD the gas & can use his connections ...Barrrroooommmmm.... Varrrooooommmmmmm...I'm a man, yes I am.......

Yes, poor world leader. He only sees those he handpicks, never sees protesters etc.

A bit out of touch are we Mr. President?

Pfft.

He just wants to go back to ignoring things.

The Downing Street Memo.

The confirming Cabinet Briefing Paper.

Recruiting totals.

The pleasantly astonishing lack of support for his privatization plan.

The list goes on...
